Five Peabody students participated in the Girls Excelling in Math (GEM) Competition on Saturday, March 12. Our team included Clarie Newman (5th), Evelyn Lespch, Anne Krehmeyer, Georgia Wyatt, and Kate Burns (all 6th) and was sponsored by Peabody Middle School Math Teacher, Marie Beaurline.

This year 114 participants attended.  There are three main parts to the competition:
1. Individual competition – participants solve difficult problems
2. Mix-it-up competition – participants work with students from other schools to solve problems
3. Build-it competition – participants work with their home team to complete a building task (this year it was a catapult)
Claire Newman (grade 5) won third place in the individual competition (beating out 111 others!).  Go Claire!
