panthers

The Peabody Panther Cross Country Team made their strongest showing of the season at the Field School X country invitational on Wed, October 14th.
It was a great day for running on the fields and through the woods of Old Trail.  With the Shenandoah Mountains standing serene in the background, the Panthers blazed across the fields, finishing 2nd out of 6 teams, a mere 2 points out of first place.  Great job team!
Sam  led the way again, finishing 2nd  among all runners in the competition.  Will raced home in 5th place to put two Panthers in the top 5.  Finn ran another great race to finish next, followed by a stream of Peabody runners – Kiran, Yanni, and Ben- all breaking 15 minutes for the two mile course.   Max finished strong in his first X country race despite suffering from illness the past few weeks – great job Max!
Marieke paced our lady Panthers again – with a very strong top 10 finish among females.  Evelyn and Anne also took minutes off their time from last week. Great job ladies!
On a side note, Ben and Yanni left their orienteering kits at home today – running well over a minute faster than last week.  Once again they provided some finish line excitement:  as they raced for the line neck and neck, Yanni tossed his hat aside and told Ben there was a candy bar inside.  Ben of course, stopped to pick up the hat, allowing Yanni to edge him out crossing the line.  Ah, the bonds of friendship!
