This month, the Peabody 8th grade class traveled to Washington D.C. where they toured the Newseum and had the privilege of attending two oral arguments at the Supreme Court. Prior to their trip, the students talked with an attorney and studied the content and background of the cases they would hear. After the closing of oral arguments, our Peabody students met with Justice Samuel Alito. He elaborated more on the cases and gave our students the opportunity to ask him questions about the Court. Justice Alito also described the portraits of former Chief Justices hanging on the wall and gave the students some context for their various tenures. The students asked thoughtful and relevant questions and continued discussing the cases on the way home and at school after their return.
